BlackBerry Torch 9800
The article will provide a user with information on Blackberry Torch 9800. The Blackberry Torch has got an improved BlackBerry 6.0 OS, touchscreen and slide out keyboard combination works well.
The display of the phone can be divided up into sections and each can be tapped to bring up relevant content. The top area contains signal strength indicators and the time and date, and touching here takes a user to a settings menu for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The bottom area lets a user drag it up to view all icons and a user can also scroll left and right to view filters such as All, Favorites, Media, Downloads, and Frequent. A user can create folders and move apps into them, but the hold and select approach feels clunky compared to the slick animations of iOS4.
A single inbox contains messages from all users accounts and the social networking feeds. A user has also got an opportunity to have separate inboxes for each account. By holding down on a message a menu pops up providing support for Gmail specific features such as Labels. The universal search icon makes it quick to type something and search either BlackBerry App World, YouTube, Google or on the device itself.
The browser is Webkit-based and much more capable, for web pages and email it appears hamstrung simply by the raw speed of the device, limited as it is to 624Mhz.
The Torch is the first BlackBerry to offer both a touchscreen and a physical keyboard. It supports multi-touch and pinch to zoom. The keyboard slides down neatly from under the screen.
A screen lock and ring silencer are integrated into the top edge, while down the right hand side there’s a 3.5mm headphone socket, a volume rocker and a shortcut button for the five megapixel camera.
